Description

Home to five species of penguin, nearly half a million albatrosses, sea lions, elephant seals, and many vascular plants found nowhere else, the Falkland Islands are wonderful for wildlife.  Falklands Conservation (FC) is a membership-based organisation, registered charity and BirdLife International Partner that takes action to protect the flora and fauna of the Falkland Islands.  Our key activities include scientific research, environmental education, wildlife monitoring, practical conservation projects, land management activities, and providing advice to government to sustain and protect the Falklands’ environment.

This is a full-time role based in the Falkland Islands. As the senior staff member, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to the Trustees for overall performance and efficient management of the charity and its activities.  The successful applicant must ensure that FC’s activities are delivered within agreed financial and operational frameworks.

The CEO will lead a team of staff and volunteers in delivering FC’s strategic plan and developing and implementing annual work plans as approved by Trustees.  He/she will ensure: sound finances; direct all conservation actions and research programmes; and lead FC’s engagement with a wide range of organisations and individuals locally, regionally and internationally.  The CEO will work with our UK-based Executive Officer to nurture existing partnerships, and to broaden the fundraising and membership base of the organisation.

The skills and experience needed to carry out the CEO duties are typically gained through a post-graduate qualification in applied sciences or business administration, and experience of managing a charitable organisation, including demonstrated success in fundraising, financial control, all-round communication skills, and human resources management.  The successful candidate will be a natural diplomat and skilled communicator capable of developing and sustaining effective working relationships with stakeholders, including landowners, farmers, fishing companies and government.
