Scientific Fisheries Observer

£21,241 p.a. + sea going allowance at £37.65 per day spent at sea

 

Interested in an opportunity to contribute to sustainable Fisheries Management in the South-West Atlantic? The Fisheries Department has a vacancy for a Scientific Fisheries Observer for one year in the first instance. Observers are required to spend periods of up to five weeks at a time at sea to collect biological and other data on ships fishing primarily in Falkland Island waters.  

 

Applicants should:

 

• Hold at least a BSc in a Zoological or Biological subject

• Be computer literate

• Be enthusiastic, and have the ability to work alone

 

This position offers:

 

• Eligibility for a 15% gratuity payable on successful completion of the contract

• Flights to and from the Islands at the start and end of the contract

• 50 days holiday entitlement

• Shared accommodation to rent when on land
