Description

BIOS is seeking an Aquatic Ecologist / Biologist with a specialization in one or more of the following areas: coral reef biology, benthic ecology, ecotoxicology, and/or ecological physiology. Expertise in other areas (e.g., molecular biology, population or community ecology, life history studies, etc.) is desirable. Applicants whose primary focus is coral reef ecology or benthic ecology are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidate must have a PhD and at least 1 or 2 years postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience. Strong preference will be given to those with a commitment to undergraduate and / or graduate level education, teaching either a semester-long lecture/lab course to undergraduates, a three week short/fat module at the graduate level, and/or mentoring student interns.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of established local marine environmental programs, including long-term monitoring sites, and the development of new environmental programs that will ensure the health of Bermuda's coastal environments and provide rapid information to local government authorities. The successful applicant must have the ability to act quickly and responsibly to local marine issues, such as oil spills, ship groundings, coral bleaching events, etc.

Preference will be given to those with proven ability to write successful grant applications. A strong publication record in the peer review literature is essential.

BIOS offers a competitive package in a stimulating and challenging work environment. To apply, please submit digital copies, via email of a cover letter, CV, and list of 3 references to:
