2 x Facilities Support

Part-time (25 hours per week)

Based in Penicuik, Edinburgh

Main objective

The Facilities Support (FS) Role will be responsible for supporting the Facilities team in the delivery of services to a scientific establishment.

Specific areas of responsibility

  • Evening Reception & Security duties.
  • Weekly vehicle maintenance checks and associated administrative support.
  • Building and Engineering assistance and support.
  • Minor building fabric repairs and refurbishments.
  • Grounds maintenance activities including:- clearing gutters, drains, hard standing areas, snow and leaf clearing.
  • Support for Planned Preventative Maintenance systems.
  • Help desk activities.
  • Assist with site waste/recycling activities.
  • Assist with site security and fire evacuation activities.
  • Assist with general reception duties, meeting room set up, deliveries support.
  • Any other duties commensurate with objective of the post.

Working Hours

This post is one of two posts which will alternate shifts on a weekly basis between Evening Reception & Security duties (3.30pm to 8.30pm – Non flexible) and Vehicle, Building & Grounds maintenance etc (9.00am to 2.00pm - Flexible).  In event of absence of security post shift holder, security shift cover will take priority and day duties post holder must be able and prepared to adapt shift pattern at short notice on occasion, however we will aim to provide as much notice as possible.

Skills

  • Candidates should be able to evidence ability to work flexibly within a team and provide positive, responsive and efficient service support and delivery.
  • Evidence of skills or vocational qualifications in ‘Handyman’ level Building & Engineering duties along with understanding of Security processes and electronic systems, to include evidence of having ability to deal with incidents in a calm, controlled and effective manner, are essential.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office would be desirable. 
  • The ability to be pleasant and welcoming on reception of visitors to the site.
  • Full training would be given on specific processes and systems
