Description

About Us:

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Overview:

The Zoological Society of London offers Extra Mural Studies (EMS) placements for veterinary undergraduates each summer.

Role Profile:

Application for EMS placements for the summer of 2017 are now open.

Each application is considered individually by each Vet and previously we have received large numbers of very high standard applications. We endeavour to have made decisions and inform successfulapplicants by mid-May 2016.

The placements offer a unique opportunity for a veterinary undergraduate to “see practice” with colleagues working full time in the field of zoo and wild animal medicine and pathology. In addition, during clinically quiet periods, the student will be expected to produce a short, written case report and to write up a project to present as an informal Powerpoint presentation during the last week of their placement. Please note that we are unable to offer any accommodation at London or Whipsnade for the duration of your placement.

To be eligible a student must be about to start their final year at a veterinary school by the time the placement starts and be committed to a complete three week period.
