Specific Minimum Qualifications and Expertise

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • The postholder will have first class communications and public affairs skills, coupled with excellent knowledge of Welsh political affairs
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to represent Ofgem at a high level to Government Ministers, AMs, MPs and key stakeholders
  • Must have previous knowledge of a related and comparable communications media or public affairs role, and demonstrable skills or transferable skills in this arena
  • Fluency in the Welsh language would be desirable.

Purpose

The purpose of the post is to represent Ofgem to, and communicate with, key stakeholders in Wales. The post will be a key role within the GB External Relations, Scotland and Wales directorate.

Key Outputs and Deliverables

  • Manage and implement a contact programme at the Welsh Assembly
  • Represent Ofgem at high level meetings in Wales
  • Brief AMs, Ministers and officials on Ofgem policy
  • Produce documents for stakeholders that explain Ofgem policy
  • Represent Ofgem on stakeholder groups such as the Welsh Fuel Poverty Forum
  • Manage media inquiries
  • Produce briefing documents for the Ofgem Senior Management Team
  • Work in conjunction with the GB External Relations, Scotland and Wales team to organise events including, but not exclusive to, conferences, official dinners/lunches, GEMA board meeting in Cardiff

Key Stakeholder Relationships

You will be required to liaise with colleagues across Ofgem as policy is developed, as well with, by not exclusive to, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Wales Office and Consumer Focus Wales.

Key Accountabilities

You will be responsible for ensuring all contact with key stakeholders in Wales in maintained, to grow and protect Ofgem’s reputation in Wales and to keep Ofgem colleagues up-to-date with how the political and energy landscape is evolving in Wales.
