Description

The expert will provide input in the field of sustainable resource use to support the implementation of projects in the REC’s Water Management and Natural Resources Unit (WNR).

Specific tasks include:

  • contributing to the implementation of the Urban Green Belt project (Interreg Central) — pilot activities in Budapest and Prague, and training in Budapest (110 workdays);
  • participating in the implementation of the Green Danube project (Interreg Danube) — air quality assessment, green technologies in inland waterway transport (IWT), and policy support (60 workdays);
  • contributing to the implementation of the ESMERALDA project (Horizon 2020) — stakeholder needs assessment in the field of ecosystem service mapping and assessment, and workshop organisation (30 workdays);
  • conducting studies and assessments for the European Commission (20 workdays) and;
  • managing additional tasks as and when assigned by the head of unit and the deputy executive director for programme implementation.

 

Experience required

  • A minimum of seven years’ work experience in the field of the environment, preferably in project-related work.
  • A minimum of four years’ work experience in the field of sustainable resource use.
  • Experience in the preparation of studies, analytical reports, policy assessments and briefings on policy developments, and in reviewing policy documents.
  • Experience in assessing the implementation of policy initiatives and policy instruments.
  • Experience of working with governmental bodies, municipalities and industry.
  • Knowledge related to the field of sustainable resource use.
  • Knowledge related to the fields of air quality, green infrastructure and ecosystem services is an asset.
  • Knowledge of environmental policies and environmental management.
  • Knowledge of the environmental situation and practices in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Knowledge of the project management cycle.
  • Knowledge of, and an interest in, the environmental, social and economic policies of Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form in English. Fluency (written and spoken) in Hungarian is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Organisational skills, with a strong focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills; ability to plan and prioritise own work under tight deadlines; and flexibility to tackle numerous tasks simultaneously.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to travel.

 

Education required

  • An MSc in the relevant field, preferably in environmental science, geography, biology, landscape planning or regional development. An additional university degree is an asset.

 

Terms of employment

This position is based at the REC’s head office in Szentendre, Hungary. The position is for a fixed number of workdays for the above-mentioned projects, with the possibility of extension.
