Experimental Atmospheric Research Scientist

Closing Date:
30 Jan 2012

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) invites applications for the position of Experimental Atmospheric Research Scientist to implement a research chromatographic (GC, IC and HPLC) user facility for multiple applications in Cyprus, to promote and utilize atmospheric composition observations in Cyprus and the region in research on environment, health and Earth science issues.

The Cyprus Institute is a research institution based in Cyprus. It is a non-profit international science and technology research and post-graduate education organization in pursuit of regional and inter-regional problems of global significance. Led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees and partnered with leading international research institutions, the Cyprus Institute is world-class in its standards and global in its membership. The CyI is a public benefit organization of Cyprus and welcomes students, faculty and staff of all nations, cultures, races and faiths. The research aims of the Cyprus Institute are represented by three research centers: the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC).

Through EEWRC activities CyI aims to explore issues of global significance in the fields of energy-, environmental- and water research, with a focus on their specific regional, East-Mediterranean manifestations. Its research agenda addresses the great challenges related to: the mitigation and adaptation strategies necessitated by climate change, a reduced dependence on hydrocarbon energy sources and achieving a (near-) carbon-free economy through the employment of renewables (solar) and enabling a sustainable management of water and other natural resources in arid and semi-arid environments.
