Description

Blue Ventures, an award-winning UK-based marine conservation organisation is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Expedition Manager to lead its newest marine conservation Expedition in Timor-Leste.  The position is paid, and for a period of 12 months.

The primary role of the Expedition Manager involves leading a team of up to five staff and ecotourism volunteers, representing Blue Ventures’ interests, and directing the efficient day to day running of the Expedition and research camp.  

The successful applicant must have good physical fitness, experience of managing a budget, experience of living and working in the developing world, and the motivation and enthusiasm required to work long hours in a challenging tropical environment.

Successful expedition management requires excellent communication, leadership, diplomatic and interpersonal skills. In addition, the chosen applicant must have the initiative to develop innovate solutions to the variety of complex logistical and managerial problems that will present themselves during the course of the position. Fundamental to the position are an ability to anticipate problems before they arise and to react quickly and efficiently under pressure.

Applicants will be qualified to a minimum of PADI Dive Master level or equivalent, with a keen interest in marine biology, conservation and sustainable development.  The position will include an initial in-field training period, which will give the successful applicant time to familiarise his or herself with the workings of the site.
