Description

We are looking for a practical, dependable and responsible individual to run the Curieuse Island research expedition. The Expedition Manager position is responsible for the running of our remote research station on Curieuse Island. The main responsibilities include managing a team of staff and international volunteers, managing health and safety, budgets, science training, program logistics and equipment maintenance. The base manager reports to the Country Director. The Curieuse Island research base is home to the GVI Seychelles Marine Conservation Expedition and the Island Conservation Expedition. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who is looking to continue their career as an expedition manager, while working on vital conservation projects within a national park.

Responsibilities

 

  • Volunteer and staff management
  • Logistics and problem solving
  • Maintaining Health and Safety standards
  • Project management and report writing
  • Equipment repair and maintenance
  • Train volunteers in scientific monitoring
  • Boat driving
  • Support local partners

 

Qualifications Required

 

  • Management experience
  • Logistics experience
  • International volunteering experience
  • PADI Divemaster certification
  • First aid/CPR qualification
  • RYA II or equivalent certified boat driver
  • Basic engine maintenance experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • English fluency essential
  • Full command of MS Office package

 

Qualifications Desired

 

  • Experience of compressor and boat engine maintenance and repair
  • SCUBA technician
  • Degree in relevant discipline
  • EFR Instructor
  • Seychellois nationality a distinct advantage though not essential
