Description

The Deer Initiative is seeking to appoint a new Executive Director. This is a rare opportunity for a highly organised, driven & solution-oriented self-starter to lead and inspire a well-established charity supporting a broad partnership.

Since its creation in 1995, the DI has had lead responsibility for the sustainable management of wild deer in England & Wales.  Our independent nature draws together a wide range of public & private organisations with an interest in the various impacts deer have upon our environment.  The Partnership is supported by DI Ltd, a charitable company limited by guarantee. The Executive Director of DI Ltd acts as the Secretary to the DI Partnership.

The Director is responsible for managing the DI Ltd to ensure delivery against all of the objectives set out in the Corporate Strategy against which performance is measured.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience of:

  • Working with a Board of Trustees to contribute to effective strategic and operational decision making
  • Securing funding & an entrepreneurial  approach to income generation
  • Significant experience in developing & communicating a strategic vision
  • Leadership & management at a senior level with the ability to develop, manage and motivate teams
  • Working with governmental & non-governmental agencies
  • Building stakeholder relationships and complex programmes, with the capacity to respond to complex & competing demands.

Experience of deer management whilst desirable, is not a pre-requisite. However, a broad understanding of the countryside & land management is essential.

The post attracts a starting salary in the order of £50,000 plus non-contributory pension & company vehicle.
