THE ORGANISATION:  Founded in 2009, the International Anti-Poaching Foundation(IAPF) is a multi-national non-profit organization that defends wildlife populations around the world by implementing legal, direct action military and law enforcement strategies to stem wildlife poaching. Our current operations are focused in Southern Africa (See: www.iapf.org).

Recently registered as a non-profit organization in the United States, IAPF seeks its first US Executive Director to scale and lead its communications, marketing and fundraising programs to further its global impact and influence.

THE OPPORTUNITY

A senior position within the International Anti Poaching Foundation's global management framework, this is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional eager to use his/her proven ability to grow a dynamic, innovative and highly regarded organization into a global leader in the wildlife conservation arena.

IAPF is at a critical stage in its development as it prepares to expand its programs and impact both within and beyond areas of its current operations.

The Executive Director will report to the IAPF-USA’s Board of Directors. He/she will have a close working relationship with the Founder & CEO of IAPF and IAPF’s Steering Committee.

*Please note: While the organisation is currently headquartered in Houston, TX, the location of this position is flexible. Travel to DC/ NYC may be required on a regular basis.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director’s responsibilities will include:

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT:

  • Develop and scale IAPF’s communications, marketing and fundraising programs in tandem with the global organization to further its vision and impact;

  • Serve as IAPF USA’s lead spokesperson and ambassador, strengthening its visibility and reputation;

  • Lead the work of IAPF, developing and implementing plans to expand its influence and reach;

  • Determine staffing needs, and hire, train and manage staff as appropriate;

  • Work closely with, and help develop and strengthen IAPF’s US Board of Directors;

  • Provide oversight and manage practical implementation of all corporate administrative functions in the USA to ensure that the IAPF operates efficiently while meeting all legal and financial obligations;

  • Review and approve contracts for services;

  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.


STRATEGIC PLANNING:

  • Work closely with IAPF leadership in developing and shaping the direction and strategies of IAPF;

  • Leading the updating and implementation of IAPF’s strategic plan in the USA to ensure progress on goals;

  • Ensure financial success of programs.

     

    FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND FUNDRAISING:

  • Lead the development and management of the organization’s budget and budgeting process, determining IAPF-USA’s budgeting needs and fulfilment;

  • Oversee the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy to significantly increase the number of donors;

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of IAPF-USA, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization;

  • Encourage and engage the Board and other IAPF champions in their capacity as funders and program advocates.


    EXTERNAL RELATIONS:

  • Serve as the day-to-day public face of IAPF in the USA and spokesperson and leader with other organizations, the media, conferences and officials;

  • Demonstrate conservation and environmental expertise and become a trusted adviser to donors;

  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.

     

    SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    To be considered for this position you will have:

  1. Demonstrated success in senior non-profit management with proven ability to collaborate with and motivate board members, staff and volunteers;

  2. A history of consistently achieving organisational goals by mastering process and building consensus;

  3. Strong financial and project management skills;

  4. Proven fundraising skills;

  5. Extraordinary oral and written communication, advocacy and social skills, with the ability to convey a vision of IAPF-USA’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors;

  6. A personal and professional network across the not-for-profit sector and others focused on wildlife conservation, environmental issues and donor networks;

  7. A knowledge of southern Africa, particularly with experience in the wildlife conservation or environmental sector will be highly advantageous;

  8. A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field will be highly regarded.
