Description

Executive Director

Living Oceans Society

Vancouver/Sointula, BC

Living Oceans Society is a non-profit research and public education organization, committed to conserving marine biological diversity to ensure a healthy ocean and healthy coastal communities. Living Oceans Society has been a leader in the effort to protect Canada’s Pacific coast since 1998 and is currently the largest organization in Canada focusing exclusively on marine conservation. The Society has offices in Sointula, a small fishing village on the Central Coast of British Columbia and in Vancouver. The scope of its work is national with an emphasis on the Pacific Coast of Canada.

There is now a unique opportunity for an individual to join Living Oceans Society and build on its many successes as the new Executive Director.  Reporting to the Board of Directors, you are responsible for achieving strategic, financial, and fundraising objectives and, on a daily basis, acting as the public face of the organization. With responsibility for an operating budget of $1 million, you will inspire, engage and lead multiple internal and external stakeholders and will provide leadership and vision to dedicated staff and volunteers. This is a significant leadership opportunity for an inspirational and visionary leader who has a track record that successfully combines effective activism and fund development with an understanding of how to bring all those that use the oceans together as part of the solutions, including fishermen.

As the ideal candidate, you are a proven conservation or social justice leader who values and respects that people and coastal communities are part of marine environmental solutions.  You have a team-minded approach, superior relationship skills and the capacity and vision to build on Living Ocean Society’s programming and revenue development goals, and take bold and visionary steps to take the Society to the next step in marine conservation.
