WWF Malaysia is a founding member of FSM. As the leader in Malaysia's efforts on sustainable forest management and a key supporter of FSC globally, WWF Malaysia has been the pivotal driver of both improving forestry practices and founding the internationally recognised FSC certification scheme domestically. WWF Malaysia has been actively involved in FSM's establishment, direction and action; including seeding the FSM, being a founding member and currently as a member of FSM's Board of Directors (through Conservation Director Dr. Sundari Ramakrishna). WWF Malaysia continues to provide direct support through provision of resources for FSM's Secretariat and activities, while playing a leading role through the Board in driving the Mission as well as ensuring forest conservation is a core value of FSM.

Forest Sustainability Malaysia (FSM) is seeking a motivated, innovative and talented individual with the ability to build the profile of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in Malaysia while protecting the credibility and integrity of the FSC standards and developing a strong and sustainable financial base for the organisation.

FSM (or FSC Malaysia pending approval of National Office application) is the Malaysian component of an international non-government, non-profit organisation that promotes responsible forest management practices through multi-stakeholder standard setting and an internationally-recognised certification scheme. In depth knowledge of certification schemes work will be an advantage.




Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in implementing the key goals of the organization
  • Oversee the Standards Development Group, relevant working groups and consultation fora to ensure the FSC Malaysia National Standard is delivered taking into account the diverse views of stakeholders and in conformance with the requirements of FSC International
  • Arrange and attend Board meetings and related committee/working group meetings
  • Manage policy initiatives on behalf of the organisation
  • Provide advice to the organisation on Policy and Standards issues
  • Liaise with FSC International Policy and Standards Unit and other FSC organisations/units globally on policy and standards matters
  • Ensure the organization is complaint with all applicable laws relating to business and personnel management
  • Maintain a risk management program to protect the organization and ensure it is able to respond effectively to emerging threats and opportunities
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to generate revenue through education, training, promotional activities, membership, sponsorship and fundraising
  • Manage the organization according to budget and consistently re-assess financial performance
  • Manage the human resources of the organization including the approval of staff recruitment as well as overseeing staff development, training and performance management
  • Ensure that the organization’s policies, procedures and workplace instructions are adhered to
  • Develop and implement the organization’s communication plan
  • Build the brand, profile and understanding of FSC in Malaysia through promotional activities (to industry, stakeholders and the media), events and other innovative initiatives
  • Develop and maintain existing communication channels including the organization’s website, social media presence, electronic newsletter and marketing materials
  • Undertake and seek out media opportunities in interview, documentary, newspaper, online and/or magazine formats to increase awareness and importance of FSC standards
  • Liaise and negotiate with Government, industry groups, unions, community groups, individuals, stakeholders and others to promote FSC’s goals
  • Deliver training and information sessions on the application and requirements of the FSC Standards
  • Identify, target and recruit new FSC Members
  • Maintain and build the membership and stakeholders register
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, technical experts and consultants working with or who are interested in or affected by FSC policies, standards and guidelines
  • Ensure transparent and accessible systems for stakeholder participation
  • Ensure the organization develops and implements an effective and transparent complaints system that is in line with FSC’s practices and standards



Requirements

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, Master's Degree or Doctorate (PhD) in Others or equivalent.
  • At least 5 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
  • Job role in Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Managing Director or Others.
  • 1 Full-Time and Contract position(s) available.
