The Marine Resources Council of East Florida, Inc. (MRC) seeks an experienced professional to oversee the operations, manage its financial performance, and exert leadership as Executive Director. For over 25 years, the MRC has worked to improve water quality and to protect and restore the fish and wildlife resources of the Indian River Lagoon, coastal waters, inshore reefs, and the watershed by advocating and using sound science, education, and public engagement. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters or Ph.D. degree preferred and 3-5 years of full time work experience in marine biology, oceanography, coastal management, aquatic ecology, water resource management, or related fields. Worked effectively managing programs and personnel and interacted with boards of directors and governmental agencies and other organizations. Has a proven record of successful fund raising including grants and contracts. Is an effective, and persuasive public speaker.

SALARY: $50, 000 minimum; negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Manages the daily business operations and activities required of the MRC Board of Directors (BOD) and the Executive Committee (ExCom), including administration, research activities, education, science-based advocacy, inter-governmental coordination, fund raising, membership records, and newsletter preparation.

2. Attends all general membership and BOD meetings unless excused by the Chair of the BOD. May be asked to attend meetings of the ExCom upon request of the Chair.

3. Maintains a harmonious and effective working relationship with the BOD and the ExCom with integrity.

4. Recruits and maintains general members in cooperation with the Membership Committee.

5. Recruits, supervises, and retains a highly competent MRC staff and maintains a friendly work environment designed to foster a high level of morale. The personnel management includes standards and practices commensurate with those in the community and is in strict accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

6. Recruits, trains, and retains a strong cadre of volunteer workers.

7. Writes and submits grant and contract proposals in furtherance of MRC goals and objectives to private and governmental agencies, and assists the BOD with other types of fund raising activities.

8. Prepares, in cooperation with the Treasurer, the annual budget covering operational (but not capital) funding. Maintains fiscal records, as jointly developed by the ED and the Treasurer. Reports budget performance to the Treasurer and the BOD on a monthly basis.

9. Develops and maintains an effective and harmonious working relationship with other organizations and agencies so as to maximize the positive results of MRC’s programs and activities.

10. Responsible for ensuring that the MRC is, at all times, in full compliance with the provisions of the lease agreement with the City of Palm Bay covering the operation of the Ted Moorhead Lagoon House, and that an excellent working relationship is maintained with the City and protects and maintains the 501(c)(3) non-profit status of the MRC.
