The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) is hiring an Events and Communications Assistant for the Washington, D.C. office. Since 1985, CCAP has been a recognized world leader in climate and air quality policy and is the only independent, non-profit think-tank working exclusively on those issues at the local, national and international levels.  CCAP helps policymakers around the world to develop, promote and implement innovative, market-based solutions to major climate, air quality and energy problems that balance both environmental and economic interests.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Events and Communications Assistant will support all of CCAP’s programs, including CCAP’s international dialogues, UNFCCC side events and domestic roundtable meetings. The Assistant will help produce and disseminate CCAP’s communications materials, organize CCAP’s international and U.S. events, and maintain CCAP’s website. This position is available immediately, with an expected salary range of $30,000-$34,000, depending on the individual’s qualifications and experience, and full benefits are provided.

Responsibilities may include:

Events:

  • Assist in the planning, organization, prep work and outreach for CCAP’s international meetings, UNFCCC side events and domestic meetings.
  • Research and contact appropriate meeting venues internationally and domestically, concerning e.g. meeting rooms, hotel accommodations, and catering needs.
  • Create event budgets and update/track budget details prior to event, and reconcile event budgets after event.
  • Work with venue and all vendors in lead-up to event, once contract is signed.
  • Ensure all documents, signage, needs, etc. are printed, packaged, etc. and packed for event travel.
  • Coordinate and assist with scheduling international and domestic videoconferences.

Communications:

  •  Support Communications team to draft and create event webpages for each event based on materials provided by policy staff.
  • Upload documents and resources to website, and update web pages.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite to manage graphic designs and create and update cover pages for publications, update fact sheets and web content.
  • Assist with the production of printed materials.
  • Assist with maintenance of CCAP’s website and add new content through WordPress, including text and images.
  • Format and send CCAP’s quarterly e-newsletter and targeted emails.
  • Track web hits to provide statistical analyses that illustrate audience response. Track and upload media hits that reference CCAP or CCAP staff.
  • Assist with publication formatting and ensure CCAP branding/formatting guidelines are met with each publication.
  • Posting to social media (LinkedIn, Twitter)
  • Assist with other communications and administrative tasks as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

A successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle tasks for multiple projects at once. Specific requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; candidates without a bachelor’s degree should demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related position: demonstrated events-related experience researching venues, working with vendors. Reviewing and negotiating contracts is an asset.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to create graphics and layouts in Photoshop, and edit stylized report covers in InDesign preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Proficiency in content management systems, preferably WordPress.
  • The ability to take on increasing responsibility and work independently, as well as with a team.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • A sense of humor.
