A worldwide electronics company with a first class environmental and sustainability reputation needs to recruit a professional, for the short term, to manage all sustainability (environmental & CSR) issues affecting its products at European level. This will ensure that it complies with all existing and upcoming European environmental legislation (e.g. REACH, EuP, RoHS), manage voluntary initiatives (e.g. IPP, Greenpeace), external communications (e.g customer queries, PR) and internal strategies (e.g. gap analysis, competitor benchmarking). 
The main objectives of the job are to:
- Ensure legal compliance with environmental legislation in all European territories where the company operates (e.g. RoHS, REACH, EuP, WEEE, Packaging, Batteries, Trans-shipment);
- Monitor and, where appropriate, influence planned European environmental legislation and voluntary sustainability initiatives primarily via the European Trade Association, EICTA;
- Directly respond to, or assist with, external queries on environmental & CSR issues (e.g. from NGOs, customers, media) and develop good external relationships with key stakeholders;
- Develop & communicate company policies on sustainability at European level both internally and externally;
- Line Manage the European Recycling Manager and European Sustainability Specialist.
Areas of Responsibility
- Summary of main responsibilities e.g. leading a team, managing specific accounts, liaising / communicating with external vendors etc.
– Work with the global environment team in HQ, European product managers and national/regional offices in all European territories where it operates to ensure full legal compliance with European environmental legislation on energy and chemicals (e.g. RoHS, REACH, EuP, F Gases);
– Set internal compliance procedures where required;
– Obtain clarification from authorities or legal advice where required.
– Line manage European Recycling Manager to ensure full legal compliance with Producer Responsibility legislation (e.g. WEEE Directive, Packaging Directive, Batteries Directive, Trans-shipment) at best value.
POLICY DEVELOPMENT
– Monitor and, where appropriate, influence planned European environmental legislation (e.g. EuP Implementing Measures).  Represent the company in the EICTA Environmental Policy Group & sub-Groups taking a lead role in drafting position papers and lobbying on critical issues;
– Participate in voluntary sustainability initiatives on both environmental and CSR issues (e.g. IPP, Codes of Conduct, MakeITFair Roundtable, Eco-labelling);
– Work closely with HQ global environment team to ensure that European viewpoint is incorporated into corporate sustainability policy & strategy;
– Develop European sustainability policies and undertake gap analyses, competitor benchmarking as required to inform strategies.
Candidates will need:
• Good general knowledge of sustainability issues (Environmental & CSR), preferably at European level;
• 6–10 years employment history with at least 3-4 years’ experience of managing sustainability issues in a consultancy, public sector or corporate environment;
• Good basic or expert knowledge of European environmental legislation affecting electrical / electronic products i.e.  RoHS, REACH, EuP, WEEE;
• Familiarity with European policy making process (role of European Commission, Parliament, Member States).
