Greenpeace is looking for an experienced media officer to work on its European energy campaign. The position (for a full-time six-month contract) will be based in Brussels and could involve limited travel. The start date is: as soon as possible!
   
Profile:
•    You have a solid track record in journalism and/or communications, and a good grasp of European energy issues and politics.
•    Your English is perfect and you are skilled at drafting sharp and engaging press material.
•    You are as effective at planned work as you are at reactive work.
•    You are organised, stress-resilient and able to deliver high quality work on time.
•    You can develop and implement effective media plans across different media markets.
•    You understand the role of social media in campaigning, media work and mobilisation.
•    You are flexible and have a positive, open and can-do attitude.
•    You are committed to social change, possess a sharp news judgement and political sensitivity.
•    Knowledge of other European Union languages is an advantage.

Responsibilities:
•    You will research and draft press material for the European energy campaign, maintaining Greenpeace’s reputation for accuracy, independence and political incisiveness.
•    You will identify communications opportunities, and, in agreement with the head of EU communications, initiate and carry out high quality media work to further European energy campaign goals.
•    You will coordinate EU media work with other Greenpeace offices.

Skills and qualifications:
•    Excellent media skills, written and oral. Attention to detail.
•    Ability to translate technical data into accessible information rapidly and in a lively and persuasive style.
•    Ability to produce excellent written communications material (from sharp press releases to snappy tweets and comprehensive Q&As) that is adapted to different European media audiences.
•    Ability to recognise and independently exploit useful communications channels and angles.
•    Good networking and interpersonal skills to establish relationships within the organisation.
•    Ability to work under pressure, and prioritise and manage competing demands.
•    Support for the campaign goals of Greenpeace and for the practice of non-violent direct confrontation.
•    At least three years’ experience as a journalist or communications officer.
•    Knowledge of photo/video editing software, and IT and web design is an advantage.
