An international electronics business with highly respected environmental credentials is looking for an experienced individual. Essentially the role is to ensure all necessary action is taken in respect of the business and third party products in respect of product safety and environmental legislation to enable them to be legally compliant when placed on the market in EMEA, and support the implementation of policies and processes accordingly. To identify, interpret and understand EU and local environment and product safety legislation, in particular with respect to legislation affecting our products.  Project manage implementation of new legislation, in liaison with the EPS Environmental Business Specialists and other team members. Support EPS Director in developing strategy and implementing projects and policy and overall ensuring that our products meet legal requirements in the EMEA market.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1 To identify legislative developments including impending legislative changes in Environmental and Product Safety legislation in Europe, in particular in respect of legislation affecting products (hardware, software, consumables, chemicals, media etc) and its ability to place them on the market.
a) Identify new or pending legislation and its possible impacts on the business and develop projects plans accordingly
b) Work with the Environmental Business Specialists to the identifying the impact of legislation and assist other staff to lobby governments and organisations accordingly
c) Working with the Environmental Business Specialists liaise with NSO’s and RSO’s and the BU’s to understand the impact of such legislation
2 To support the development of pan European policies and processes to ensure that they both meet legal requirements and also meet market needs and expectations in terms of product labeling etc.
3 To identify compliance issues, develop programmes or projects to address them and lead or project management effective compliance e.g green procurement projects; training programmes etc
4 To work with team members to ensure that any relevant legislation is built into our audit process to ensure ongoing legal compliance, and assist with audits across Europe as required.
5 To work with team members to ensure that adequate information and communication is delivered thoughout the organisation to ensure legal compliance is implemented and maintained.
6 To work at European level to influence, interpret and understand EU and relevant international environmental legislation through interaction and lobbying activities, trade and industry associations or other relevant platforms; to ensure appropriate representation of the business's interests and involvement at a European level, working in conjunction with the team in Belgium
7 Responsibility in the EPS team for:
EUP
Eco-declarations (content/distribution)
Labelling
Technical data about our products
Product Safety Technical liaison and support in conjunction with the Service and Support functions for the BU’s and the Product Managers
Product Certification (Gost-R, CE declarations) in terms of process and management – supervision and support of administration and data handling
REACH – chemicals and articles
ROHS – compliance of Canon products and third party products via green procurement
General technical environmental enquiries about all products
8 To manage on a day to day basis the Incident Management System, the administration of the European Incident Management Committee (minutes, meetings, follow ups, reports); the administration of Product Liability Claims and notifications
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
Degree in environmental science, or law, or relevant subject OR
Professional qualification with relevant experience.
Preferred experience of pan-European operation
Preferred experience in legal compliance/legal affairs and/or technical qualifications and/or technical service background
Some experience/qualifications in auditing preferred.
English – further languages beneficial
EXPERIENCE
Commercial experience in large organisation
Experience in research and analysis and implementation of legislation.
Excellent knowledge of products/design
SKILLS
Business understanding in terms of legislative impact.
Technical knowledge and understanding – e.g from a service and support or a product technical background
Personal qualities
Ability to project manage the implementation of legislation across European organization
Good analytical skills
Communication and interpersonal skills are important..
