EU power and policy - Lawyer (fixed term contract)

Climate & Energy Programme - London

About the role

The lawyer role is designed for an entry-level law graduate to make a meaningful contribution to our Climate & Energy Programme. The focus of the role is to contribute to our thinking concerning the role of energy and climate law in driving the European energy decarbonisation process. The successful candidate will be required to analyse the relevant legal, policy and political terrain to facilitate intervention by ClientEarth at EU and Member States level. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage more widely in EU energy law issues including assessing the legal and legislative implications of the recommendations for power sector decarbonisation developed by ClientEarth’s partners.

The role is expected to start in May 2015.

About you

The successful candidate will have working experience in a legal environment and will be ready to contribute to strategic legal thinking, and creative problem solving in a public interest law setting. You should have a strong understanding of EU climate and energy law (in particular related to the internal energy market and state aid), and ideally a broad understanding of EU environmental law and public law. You should have the skills to work in an interdisciplinary context. More generally, the successful candidate will be adaptable, resilient and able to take initiative. You are also committed to environmental issues and to urgent action on climate change. You are fluent in English and it would be desirable to have a working language knowledge of other EU languages.
