Role description and duties

The Ethics & Environment Coordinator is a fixed term role reporting to the Human Resources Manager reflecting the growing importance of improving UCLU?s environmental performance, its sustainability and ethical policy and procedures. 

The post holder will support and assist the Ethics, Environment and Operations Officer (EEOO) in the development of a long term environmental and ethical responsibility plan for UCLU through research and developing the systems and tools for evidencing, monitoring, measuring and controlling performance with regard to UCLU?s environmental sustainability activities and ethical responsibility initiatives. 

Main purpose 

To support the portfolio duties of the EEOO and to carry out the role of UCLU Green Champion. 

Duties and Responsibilities

? Assist the EEOO and other Full Time Officers in developing and delivering a long term environmental and ethical responsibility plan for UCLU, ensuring the embedding of performance and control measures. 

? Assist and provide support to the EEOO, the Education and Campaigns Officer (ECO) and relevant societies, in running environmental and ethical campaigns.

? Undertake research on policies/campaigns relevant to ethical and environmental issues.

? Assist the EEOO in carrying out the Green Impact Programme (GIP). This will include attending weekly meetings of the Green Impact Team (Led by the EEOO, including the Commercial Services Manager and any interested parties), providing expertise and feedback on the GIP criteria and taking responsibility for carrying out certain duties when relevant as allocated by the EEOO. 

? Gather and present accurate evidence against criteria. The UCLU Green Impact Team will aim for the highest award and will strive to go above and beyond each individual criterion.

? Update and develop relevant media outlets for the UCLU Ethics and Environment team, including relevant UCLU web pages

? Help coordinate an environmental week with UCL and relevant UCLU societies and officers.

? Deliver environmental surveys and audits as necessary and report against performance indicators.

? Work with the UCLU team to ensure that staff and officers are kept up to date with UCLU's environmental and ethical practices and policies, including staff training and behavioral change programmes, and requesting and responding to feedback. 

? Promote best practice.

? Create an effective recycling programme for UCLU with the EEOO to include effective use of UCLU's WARP it account. 

? Produce reports on the state of environmental and ethical responsibility in UCLU and liaise with UCL to gather valuable information.

? Participate in and support UCL wide environmental programmes.

? Provide briefings to the Full Time Officers and other student representatives as necessary.

? Liaise with other Universities, student unions and external organisations to share best practice.

? Project manage initiatives as required.

? Work within UCLU?s financial procedures.

? Develop and maintain good communication links with Officers, UCLU staff, UCL staff, UCL partners, student networks and external partners.

? Actively follow and promote UCL and UCLU policies including Equal Opportunities.

? Maintain an awareness and observation of fire and health and safety regulations.

? Commit to reducing UCLU?s environmental impact and promote environmental and ethical good practice in line with UCLU policy.

? Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.

Essential
? Good understanding of the sustainability challenges faced by an organisation and 
methods of communicating news and activities to a wide range of stakeholders
? Experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders 
? Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels? oral and written
? A natural collaborator, working cross functionally, internally and externally
? Attention to detail in preparation and delivery of reports
? Highly developed numeracy and IT skills 
? Proficiency in using social media
? Strong customer focussed approach

Desirable
? Formal qualification in an environmental related discipline
? Educated to degree status
? Sound knowledge and experience of a broad range of environmental issues, stakeholder issues and expectations
? Using and implementing communications tools
? Ability to think creatively 
? Leadership and co-ordination of project teams and stakeholder groups
