ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will have to:

•Manage all activities and plan actions in fulfillment of the expected results and outcomes for the SOP Manu component of the project: “Island Ecosystems, Local Livelihoods - Combating Invasive Alien Species in the Pacific for the benefit of biodiversity and people” (eradication of introduced mammals from islands in the Gambier and Tuamotu archipelagos).

•Organize and perform fieldwork in the role of team leader.

•Write technical and donor reports including completion of a feasibility assessment, pre and post operational implementation, mid-term and final project reports.

•Work closely with local communities and coordinate networking with local and international partners.

•Manage a project steering committee.

•Participate in technical meetings, training and facilitate capacity needs in support of the project.

•Develop and implement sustainable biosecurity procedures.

•Assess biodiversity and as possible social and economic outcomes of the project. 

•Manage logistic, administrative and financial aspects of the project.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

•MSc or PhD in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Science or other Biological disciplines.

•Knowledge of tropical flora and fauna, especially birds.

•Good knowledge of invasive species issues and management methods (particularly eradication).

•Willingness and ability to communicate and work with local communities.

•Capacity to collaborate with local and international partners.

•Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.

•Good knowledge in situation analysis and decision-making.

•Excellent organizational and planning skills.

•Very good physical fitness to fieldwork.

•Good knowledge and use of computer.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

•Experience in managing and coordinating conservation projects.

•Experience in invasive species eradication, including the planning and implementation of eradication operations.

•Experience in assessing biodiversity (and ideally social and economic) impacts including design, data collection and analysis.

•Experience in a French-speaking country.

•First Aid certification.

 

SPECIFIC MEANS PROVIDED:

The NGO will support travel and transportation, field equipment and training necessary to implement the tasks.

 

CONTRACT INFORMATION: 

•Hours: Full time, two-year contract with possibility of extension of the contract.

•Salary: to be determined, depending on experience (approximate salary 2300 euros).

•Health insurance provided.

•Vacation: 2,5 days per month.
