JOB DESCRIPTION

The Equipment Sustaining Engineer engages in the production environment providing, executing, and supporting short-term recovery plans intended to minimize the impact of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair. He/she provides the Equipment Technicians technical training and oversight, and direction in ongoing tactical day-to-day planned maintenance and unplanned repair of the equipment. He/she reviews and supports Scheduled, Unscheduled, and Non-Scheduled equipment procedures and events on-site on the production floor and prioritizes these efforts based on production requirements. He/she works with Equipment Development Engineering, providing clear feedback regarding improvements that need to be made for greater maintenance efficiency and economy. Further he/she works collaboratively with Research & Development, Process Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to provide improved capability and reliability in resolving issues that impact production and maintenance efficiency and cost.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and institute programs and practices that optimize equipment recovery and planned maintenance evolutions.
  • Perform and or direct Preventive Maintenance on in-service equipment and supporting facilities in compliance with documented specifications and in adherence to safety codes
  • Provide clear and decisive direction and action for troubleshooting and recovering unplanned down equipment
  • Work with maintenance technicians and production to safely recover WIP and materials at risk due to equipment malfunction or interruption
  • Drive continuous improvement programs for the assigned shift and/or equipment to improve manufacturing equipment performance, maximize the Mean Productive Time Between Interrupts (MTBIp), and Operational Uptime, and minimize Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
  • Provide training in basic and advanced maintenance and troubleshooting skills along with established best maintenance practices
  • Review and critique preventive maintenance specifications for completeness, efficiency, accuracy, and economy. Encourage input from the maintenance technicians and work with development engineers to make changes in accordance with suggestions that have merit
  • Support the investigation of scrapped WIP that occur during the shift due to equipment or maintenance errors. Provide a report to the responsible equipment engineers to help ensure prompt and effective failure analysis corrective action, and closure
  • Work with production and supply chain to resolve spare parts issues. Help to ensure that stocked spare parts inventories are the correct specified parts to support equipment maintenance and repair effort. Provide recommendations for updating the minimum (reorder) and maximum stocking quantities as necessary.
  • Be available as information resource, assuming the role of expert regarding any technical issues relating to in-service equipment

Experience amd Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related equipment engineering experience
  • Bachelors Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of equipment function, operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Good understanding of basic wafer level processes and cleanroom disciplines and functional team and project management experience
  • In depth knowledge of basic and advanced maintenance and troubleshooting skills, and a clear understanding of best maintenance practices and disciplines
  • Ability to effectively train technicians and clearly convey technical information in an accessible manner.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of the safe and correct use of basic hand and power tools and electrical and mechanical test and diagnostic equipment used in maintaining and repairing equipment
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal safety and building codes relevant to equipment repair and maintenance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a fluency in spoken English
  • Proven ability to read and understand technical documentation, write instructions, reports, reviews, and specifications, and effectively convey information when speaking to groups or individuals
  • Ability to effectively function as a focused or cross-functional team member or leader as the situation requires
  • Ability to negotiate conflicts, specification terms, or priorities to provide positive win-win results whenever possible.
