The Leader, Environmental Sustainability will support Newell Rubbermaid's corporate environmental management and sustainability programs  worldwide with an overarching goal of continuously improving environmental performance of its brands and products across their life cycle, and of its operations and supply chain. The position will report to the Director, Global Environment & Sustainability (GE&S) with significant interaction and direction from Program Manager, GE&S. 

Products and Packaging

  • Interface with key corporate and business unit stakeholders to assimilate sustainability into the corporate consumer-driven innovation/product development process and support ongoing continuous improvement
  • Support business units in developing and implementing strategy for integrating sustainability into their brands and products across the value chain
  • Develop and/or apply skills to perform simplified and quantitative environmental life cycle analyses on products to support marketing claims and/or certifications 

Communications, Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Build and deliver tools, processes, and associated training materials in support of internal product sustainability and associated environmental management programs
  • Manage communications for GE&S group including writing articles, preparing presentations and developing internal and external website content 

Operations and Supply Chain

  • Assist in implementation and monitoring of environmental management systems (EMS) for diverse manufacturing and distribution facilities worldwide including regulatory compliance
  • Support overall facility environmental management and sustainability programs including identification of pollution prevention opportunities; development of engineering solutions to improve environmental sustainability performance; environmental metrics collection, reporting, and data tracking; and associated engineering and scientific calculations
  • Support integration of sustainability into supply chain including finished goods suppliers and direct material sourcing  

Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor's degree required.  Degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical or process engineering preferred.  Degrees in science or environmental studies considered with appropriate experience, skills and knowledge, such as an advanced degree in a pertinent discipline.
  • Knowledge or ability to quickly learn and perform product environmental life cycle analysis using associated software such as SimaPRO or GaBi a plus
  • Excellent project management and written and verbal communication skills
  • Consumer Packaged Goods industry and/or product development experience a plus
  • Requires 20-30% travel, including international
  • Must be adept in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to manufacturing operations and  experience with EMSs and environmental compliance/conformance auditing an added plus.
