Environmental Service Learning Contractor, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots

Project Duration: January - June, 2013

Location: Denver, CO
 
Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, the Jane Goodall Institute’s global humanitarian and environmental youth program, is seeking candidates for a part-time contractor based in Denver, CO. 
 
The position would be 10 hours per week, beginning late January 2013, and would last for five months. Flexibility for occasional weekend and evening event opportunities required.

*You would need to be available one day the following week for an in-person or Skype interview 
* You must be available on Saturday, February 2nd for a day long workshop with Roots & Shoot and Colorado educators.

Preferred skills: 
  • Be self-motivated and have a positive attitude!
  • Experience, comfort, and interest in working in a youth classroom setting with educators and elementary through high school students preferred.
  • Experience with STEM learning.
  • Desire to learn about non-profit organizations and service-learning in the classroom.
  • Excellent attention to detail. 
  • Proficient computer skills – able to work with Microsoft Office programs. 
  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Able to work occasional nights and weekends for organizational event opportunities.
  • Belief in the mission of Roots & Shoots and the Jane Goodall Institute. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Conducts in- classroom visits with Roots & Shoots educators and their students to help design and implement service-learning projects.
  • Conducts environmental and humanitarian service learning outreach activities with teachers and students in Colorado schools.
  • Contributes to outreach efforts with potential partner organizations and Colorado schools to build attendance for Roots & Shoots events and trainings.  
  • Assists in data tracking and administrative support of the Roots & Shoots Service Learning Curriculum in Colorado.
  • Supports select Roots & Shoots special events and trainings—preparation, participation, and leading volunteer teams. 
  • May contribute to a wide range of other projects, including production of web-based communication, as well as contacting and assisting other Roots & Shoots members in Colorado.
