Our client is looking for motivated self starters who can provide specialist knowledge related to Britain's canals and inland waterways. Within this role you will provide advice on environmental issues through a series of locally based multi-disciplinary teams. Normally this will relate to water quality, pollution control, waste management, contamination, environmental appraisal, especially to the North Wales and Borders waterway team and others working in that geographical area. You will ensure day to day works and corporate objectives are dealt with effectively, taking proactive steps to keep the business informed of the organisation's obligations. Through study and review of the waterway network, promote and report on the conservation of heritage structures and the environment, advise on legislative compliance and the correct application of its environmental policy, heritage policy and defined standards. Challenging aspects will involve dealing with colleagues at various locations and levels within the organisation; response to emergencies; liaison with regulators; and enforcing its standards and procedures.
Essential Qualifications and knowledge required
• Environmental science (or similar) degree (or equivalent level)
• Membership of IEMA or other appropriate professional body (CIWEM / CIWM)
• Comprehensive working knowledge of environmental legislation specialising in a particular area such as water, waste and contaminated land/environmental chemistry, but also having a wider knowledge of the other areas including ecology, EIA and health and safety.
• Practical experience in water quality, pollution control, waste management, contaminated land / environmental chemistry role(s),
•Proven skills in sampling, analysis and interpretation of results.
Preferred:
• Full member and working towards Chartered status of relevant professional body
Skills and experience required:
• Specialist in water quality / pollution control
• Experience of construction / maintenance activities and operational sites.
