The Engineer / Scientist (chemical or environmental) will work as a team member of the Environmental Services Group (ESG) on a range of environmental projects focusing on air quality assessments. This role will undertake independent work tasks and will include work tasks for multidisciplinary projects involving interaction with a range of professional disciplines.

  • Environmental management systems.

The suitable candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting atmospheric dispersion modelling using the full suite of modern and traditional dispersion models including (but not limited to) CALPUFF, AUSPLUME, AERMOD, ISC3, CALINE3/4 and TAPM.
  • Preparation of validated three-dimensional meteorological wind fields using, for example, the TAPM and CALMET models.
  • Preparation of high-quality emission inventories (both regional and site-specific) using a wide variety of methods including site inspection, emission testing results and appropriate emission estimation techniques.
  • Data collection, synthesis and review with a focus on greenhouse, energy and air quality projects.
  • Technical and statistical data analysis including application of specialised modelling software, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Providing high-level data compilation, processing, visualisation and statistical interpretation, particularly for the assessment of long-term ambient air quality monitoring results and for the display of complex modelling results.
  • Preparation of greenhouse and air quality reports and other client deliverables to a high professional standard requiring minimum editing by supervisors.
  • Project management, contract management, assistance with proposal and tender preparation and some client liaison.

In order to be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary level qualifications – Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical or Environmental) or Bachelor of Science in a quantitative major, from a recognised institution. (Please include with Application)
  • Drivers Licence, in accordance with Queensland Law requirements
  • A minimum of two years experience is preferred. More experienced people are encouraged to apply as salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Demonstrable experience in use of modern air quality modelling packages including (but not limited to) CALPUFF, AUSPLUME, AERMOD, ISC3, CALINE3/4 and TAPM. This is an essential requirement of the position.
