Environmental Project Officer

There is an exciting opportunity to join Lincolnshire County Council as a Farming in Protected Landscapes Officer Lincolnshire Wolds to oversee the new Farming in Protected Landscapes Programme.  This diverse role includes working with farmers and land managers across the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB to facilitate projects that will help deliver the AONB Management Plan and secure positive outcomes for nature, climate, people and place.  

About the Role

Protected Landscapes - our National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - are special and unique places.  They are living, working landscapes that also support a huge range of habitats and species, and they are enjoyed by millions of people every year.  By supporting the farmers, land managers and people who live and work in these areas, we can help protect these exceptional places and support local communities.

To help do this, Defra has introduced the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, which runs for three years until March 2024. Through the programme, farmers and land managers can be supported to undertake projects that help secure positive benefits for nature recovery, mitigate the impacts of climate change, provide opportunities for people to discover enjoy and understand the landscape and cultural heritage, or support nature-friendly, sustainable farm businesses.

About You

This is a high profile role and shortlisted candidates will need to demonstrate the following;

• Significant experience in environmental/rural land management (a minimum of two years).
• A degree in a relevant subject or additional extensive work experience, including working on a range of projects with farmers and land managers. 
• Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills.
• An ability to negotiate and build relationships across the farming sector to encourage and support innovative delivery for wider public benefits. 
• Experience in facilitating grant programmes, especially through agri-environment schemes and wider partnership working is expected. 
• An in-depth understanding of the current issues facing farming and rural land management in a protected landscape setting, and ideally in the Lincolnshire Wolds would be an advantage.
