Scottish and Southern Energy is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK. We own the electricity transmission network and own and operate the distribution network across the North of Scotland, and are responsible for maintaining, repairing and upgrading these networks. As part of Scottish and Southern Energy, the Major Projects division is a focused delivery group that are delivering a wide range of construction projects within the UK.  We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Project Manager to be part of a team working on a number of major transmission projects in Scotland. As the Environmental Project Manager, you will be responsible, with support from environmental consultants as necessary, for successfully delivering the environmental elements of the transmission projects, to cost, exacting standards and to project timescales during the consents and construction phases.  You will also  
  • Liaise with statutory and key consultees on environmental aspects of these projects to maintain the relationships with Scottish and Southern Energy during each stage of the projects. 
  • Be engaged in meeting the Public, Landowners and Community Councils at various stages. 
  • Provide a day to day matrix management of workloads for Environmental Advisors and Clerks of Works, where necessary.
 The successful candidate will have 
  • An environmental related degree, preferably with a post graduate qualification
  • Relevant experience post qualification
  • Proven negotiation and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of environmental planning processes (including EIA, EMS and SEA)
  • A broad experience of a number of different environmental disciplines, including ecology, archaeology and earth science
  • Experience within a construction role or the Utility Industry would be beneficial
  • Excellent organisational skills and a flexible attitude to work as you will need to support a number of diverse projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines

The role involves travel, including occasional overnight stays.  A full driving licence is essential.
