PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MEI is offering an opportunity for full-time, temporary employment for an environmental project associate position beginning in August 2009 and running until January 2010.

Job duties:
This environmental project associate is an entry-level position with responsibility for supporting a range of designated project elements within Project Green Fleet (PGF). The environmental project associate will work closely with MEI’s project directors and project managers. The position reports to MEI’s senior project director. Direct project work will make up a total of at least 95% of the position’s time.

The environmental project associate will work primarily on Project Green Fleet, a voluntary, collaborative effort to reduce diesel emissions and exposure by installing pollution control equipment on school buses and other diesel fleets.

Duties will include support of project managers and project directors in the implementation of specific PGF project elements, including:
• Work with project partners to implement the retrofitting and repowering of school bus and heavy-duty diesel vehicles with pollution control equipment and cleaner engines.
• Contact and oversight of coordination with retrofit and repower equipment manufacturers and engineers and fleet managers.
• Place and track orders with project vendors and fleet owners and operators.
• Assist with project outcome quantification, including emission and exposure reductions and obtaining participating fleet information.
• Participate in oral and written communication of project and organizational outcomes.
• Participate with other staff in planning of project elements, including the development of measurable goals.
• Assist in developing annual project work plans, including measurable environmental goals and outcomes.
• Serve as a primary liaison with external partners on specific project elements.
• Work with finance director and executive director to maintain project budgets.
• Work with communications director and project director to plan and execute project communications and outreach events.
• Evaluate success in achieving goals and outcomes for individual projects.
• Work with other MEI staff to integrate and coordinate designated projects within the organization’s larger work.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or experience requirements:
• Four-year bachelor’s degree in business management or an environmental field.
• Experience working in collaborative projects is desired, preferably including business, government and nonprofit organizations.
• Outstanding team player.
• Proficiency in written and oral communications.
• Ability to think both strategically and manage logistical details effectively.
• Creative problem solver.
• Entrepreneurial spirit.
• Proficient with Mac computer systems and Microsoft Office.
