The Role
 
Sitting within the Climate Change Water & Environment team of Rio Tinto Iron Ore and reporting to the Superintendent Environment - Robe Valley, the Environmental Monitoring Officer has responsibility for ensuring compliance with the various external and internal environmental monitoring obligations for the Robe Valley Operations.
 
Key accountabilities of this role include: -
  • Trend analysis for troglofauna data and determining risk to remaining troglofauna populations
  • Maintaining a database of monitoring data for each Robe Valley operations site
  • Developing and maintaining GIS database of monitoring site locations for all Robe Valley sites
  • Developing and maintaining written procedures for the collection of required monitoring samples in accordance with HSEQ Management System requirements
  • Maintaining field monitoring equipment
  • Developing and coordinating the schedule to meet internal and external monitoring requirements for Robe Valley operations
  • Maintaining awareness of licence requirements
  • Collating site specific data for relevant internal and external reports.
  • Ensuring monitoring equipment is calibrated according to the required schedule and maintaining the appropriate records.
  • Managing external contractors/ consultants where required for monitoring, equipment commissioning and weed control to meet CMS requirements
  • Presenting and discussing data trend and analysis for various monitoring programs
The successful applicant will have tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or related field experience with database management and in sampling collection techniques for water, land and air. You will have had exposure to Mapinfo and possess strong computer skills and a current WA driver's license.
 
The successful candidate will be well organised with strong planning and time management skills and have the ability to communicate in a professional manner with all levels of the organisation. This role will allow you to demonstrate your ability to adapt and be innovative.
