Description

We are looking for talented, experienced and suitably qualified professionals to play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of environmental performance and protection.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) exists to tackle challenges to our environment, our economy and the future security of our energy supplies. Meeting these objectives is a massive and exciting policy and delivery challenge. DECC is a small Department but it deals with issues of national and global importance.

The Offshore Environment Unit is responsible for developing the environmental regulatory framework for the UK Continental Shelf and for administering and ensuring compliance with the regulatory regime relating to offshore oil and gas exploration and production, gas unloading and storage and CCS.

You will be responsible for reviewing environmental impact assessments and the approval of offshore energy-related activities. You will provide advice to operators on legislative and procedural matters, liaising with other environmental bodies and manage several of our environmental projects and research activities. The post will require travel in the UK.

This challenging post will further develop and enhance your existing skills. It will allow you to gain a wide knowledge and understanding of the oil and gas industry and associated environmental regime from a Government viewpoint. You will have the opportunity to resolve issues within a broad policy context and to enhance your negotiating skills through working with stakeholders to achieve solutions which are of mutual benefit.

To join us, you will need significant experience in relevant offshore activities, or the environmental impact assessment or regulation of those activities coupled with relevant knowledge of offshore environmental impacts.
