Job Title: Environmental Law Program Data Analyst Department: Conservation Location: San Francisco, CA Reports to: Legal Program Operations Manager Context: Manages CARBON and LANDS databases to meet the needs of the Club’s Beyond Coal campaign and legal program. Scope: The Environmental Law Program Data Analyst works with Legal program and Beyond Coal campaign staff to effectively maintain and utilize the CARBON and LANDS databases. Accountable to the Legal Director for fulfillment of legal and campaign data information needs. Manages a variety of public and proprietary data in support of Beyond Coal campaign. Trains and supports staff and outside counsel and experts authorized to use the databases. Ensures compliance with applicable Club information policies by all system users. Job Activities: 1. Manages a variety of public and proprietary data in support of Beyond Coal campaign and legal program. 2. Performs Data Entry and Discrepancy Management in SQL base. 3. Performs Data cleaning (completeness, consistency, etc.) of data. 4. Manages relationship with developers. 5. Produces accurate and timely reports for various units within the Sierra Club. 6. Coordinates with other Club Departments (Communications, Web team, Organizing) to ensure consistent data usage. 7. Responds to requests for data from campaign staff, legal program, and communications staff. 8. Manages CARBON Listserv and communication with users. 9. Gathers data as needed. 10. Manages CARBON inbox - respond to questions and access requests. 11. Performs miscellaneous duties as directed. Knowledge and Skills: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Marketing, Statistics or a relevant field of study, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 2+ years of experience managing information systems including responsibility for the specification of system applications to meet business/ operational needs. Knowledge of statistical methods helpful. Understanding of energy sector data (EIA, EPA, AWEA, other) preferred. Excellent computer skills – especially in Microsoft Excel. Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, time management skills, and initiative. Flexibility and ability to work on several assignments simultaneously. Must be able to work independently as well as be part of a team. Must be precise, detail oriented, and able to detect subtle inconsistencies in data. |
