Play an active role in maintaining  our high standards of environmental performance and protection

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) exists to tackle challenges to our environment, our economy and the future security of our energy supplies.

We are looking for a suitably experienced and qualified Environmental Inspector to join our team in Aberdeen to act as team focal point in the Oil Pollution Emergency Plan approvals process. Working as part of a small focused team of inspectors and administration staff, your role will include monitoring and prioritising Oil Pollution Emergency Plan submissions to maintain an efficient and robust regulatory assessment and review process. You will work closely with oil and gas operators to ensure satisfactory implementation and compliance with offshore environmental regulations through assessment, inspection and enforcement. You will also investigate breaches of offshore environmental legislation.

The post will further develop and enhance your existing skills by its challenging nature. It will allow you to gain a wide knowledge and understanding of the oil and gas industry and associated environmental regime from a Government viewpoint.  You will have the opportunity to  resolve issues within a broad policy context and to enhance your negotiating skills through working with stakeholders to achieve solutions which are of mutual benefit.

To join us, you must have experience in an appropriate discipline associated with incident and emergency response, ideally in the oil and gas industry or robust operational  counter pollution response and control experience in an equivalent major hazards industry.  Specific experience in aspects associated with pollution response and contingency planning are sought and would be a distinct advantage. It is an essential requirement of the post that you pass the Offshore Medical and Survival Course.

Full details of our requirements are contained in the attached Candidate Information brochure. If, after reading the Candidate Information you have any further questions about the role, please contact: Craig  Bunyan (craig.bunyan@decc.gsi.gov.uk) or Mike Reid (michael.reid@decc.gsi.gov.uk)
