Environmental Engineer I – Environmental Geologist

The Environmental Geologist will support Coastal Erosion Hazard Area (CEHA) tasks and engineering tasks for the Flood Protection Program, and provide various services in support of US Army Corps of Engineers coastal projects on behalf of NYS DEC. This position will be based out of the NYS DEC office in Stony Brook, NY. Duties will include:

  • Providing compliance oversight with State environmental laws during construction of ongoing Army Corps of Engineers Storm Damage Reduction Projects on Long Island, including field inspections.
  • Performing technical reviews of proposed Army Corps dredging plans to determine compatibility with State environmental law and assist with State Water Quality Certificate development.
  • Reviewing CEHA permit applications and variances.
  • Addressing inquiries, complaints, and issues raised by the public and municipalities regarding CEHA, and assisting local communities in implementing CEHA programs when applicable.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering, or a related field. Applicants should have a New York State Professional Engineer’s license and current registration, or an equivalent license, as well as two years of full-time experience in professional environmental engineering.
