The Environmental Education Specialist develops and provides exciting, fun, age appropriate environmental activities for campers. |
• Develops a wide variety of environmental education experiences for day and resident campers • Plans and teaches age- and developmentally-appropriate activities focusing on ecology, sustainability, LNT camping, and other facets of environmental education • Focuses on teaching campers how they can positively impact their environment • Correlates lesson plans with the theme for each camping program, and ensures that program matches camp brochure descriptions • Ensures all programs meet Safety Wise and ACA guidelines and standards • Develops environmentally-related activities as needed for All Camp events • Schedules patrols to come to the environmental center • Participates in the planning and implementation of all-camp activities • Serves as a role model and guides campers in appropriate behavior, language, attitudes, and activities • In-services staff in environmental activities they can do with their campers • Is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in environmental education center, to include keeping all areas free of hazards • Maintains written inventory of program supplies, and advises the Assistant Director when supplies are running low • Keeps records and reports as requested, to include daily lesson plans • Serves as a member of the Service Team • Strives to function as an effective member of the camp staff team by: o maintaining excellent communication between campers, parents, and staff; o participating in staff and Service Team meetings, program meetings, and other meetings; o taking an active role in the continual evaluation of campers, programs, and staff. • Other duties as requested by the Camp Director |
• Minimum age of 21 years • A belief in, adherence to, and a willingness to promote the beliefs and philosophies of GirlScouting and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. • Acceptance of all people and the ability to live and work with girls and adults of all races, religions, and nationalities • Willingness to share skills and learn new skills and philosophies • Excellent physical and mental health, abundant energy, and a sense of humor • Maturity and good judgment • Love of people and the ability to put their needs above her own • Excellent communication skills, and a willingness to work as part of an effective camp staff team • Strong organizational skills, and attention to recordkeeping details • Current certification by the American Red Cross in Responding to Emergencies • Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification • Strong background Project WILD, Project WILD Aquatic, Project WET, or other environmental education curricula • Knowledge of and ability to teach LNT principles and the American Camp Association’s OLS program |
