The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is located within the National Park Service's Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The center's outdoor classroom consists of a 38-acre campus with easy access to over 250,000 acres of public lands.

PEEC internships provide an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain first hand experience in the day-to-day operations of a large residential environmental education center. PEEC Interns will handle similar responsibilities to our instructors, with the addition of special internship trainings and projects. Responsibilities will include offering lessons and activities addressing a wide range of topics relating to natural history and ecology, environmental issues, outdoor living skills, teamwork and communication. Group participants range from pre-school children to adults.

Internships are normally 3 to 4 months, but can be 2 to 10 months.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Plan and deliver environmental education programs.
  • Develop program activities and lessons facilitated at the center.
  • Facility upkeep and receptionist activities

PEEC internships are often used to complement a college degree program in Environmental Studies or related discipline, and can be arranged in partnership with a college or university to provide academic credit. Our strongest intern applicants are enrolled in, or have recently completed, coursework in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Education, or related disciplines. Experience teaching and/or working with groups is preferred and we look for an ability to work independently and as a team player, a positive and progressive mindset, and an orientation towards working to complete tasks with quality. Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED and/or Life guarding are desirable.

Internships stipends are $600/mo plus room and board.
