Data Specialists

We are looking for skilled data managers with an aptitude for project management and technology, to assist JNCC to pursue its core business. The post holder will work across an interesting range of projects with colleagues across JNCC providing data management, automation and innovative solutions as required. Among other duties, the posts will:

  • Lead on the management of the UK Protected Areas database including data ingestion, manipulation, reporting and publishing task.
  • Perform basic analyses on the UK protected sites network.
  • Lead on the collation and reporting of UK sites under the EU Natura 2000 network and the international Common Database on Designated Areas.
  • Contribute to the design and development of JNCC’s new central spatial data store.
  • Analyse the status of the UK Marine Protected Areas network, for example spatial area calculations.
  • Support other teams in the reporting of UK Marine Protected Areas data for legislative requirements and to other national and international reporting calls.
  • Develop dataflows and data products to disseminate the biological evidence underpinning offshore Marine Protected Areas to the public.

The Digital and Data Solutions team provides support and creates innovative solutions to all digital, data and IT related work as well as providing information management advice and guidance to teams across JNCC, and leads both internal and external projects across the full range of JNCC’s work.

The Marine Monitoring and Evidence team covers a range of activities including organising offshore seabed surveys; improving access to and managing marine biological and protected area data; understanding human impacts on the marine environment; and providing expert advice to national and international fora. The team interacts with several other JNCC marine teams and works closely with the Data and Digital Solutions team to develop and improve data products.

These two posts are opportunities for someone with a technical or data/information management background, an enthusiasm for analysis and an interest in protected areas.
