Description

The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) is the statutory adviser to Government on UK and international nature conservation. One of JNCC’s key roles is provision of biodiversity related evidence.  JNCC is looking to recruit two data specialists to work within marine evidence provision and within evidence to support EU Exit.

Understanding human impacts on the marine environment through spatial mapping of the pressures associated with human activities, the assessment of habitat and species sensitivity and using this information together to assess vulnerability is a core part of JNCC’s evidence activities.

EU exit poses an unprecedented opportunity to transform policy affecting the environment in the UK. To deliver such transformations, a range of evidence will need to be assimilated and analysed to develop options and make policy choices, and to implement policies at a cost that is proportionate.

The positions advertised would require someone with strong data management and manipulation skills and experience of using data management and translation tools such as database tools, GIS, FME, R, Python.

The marine post is permanent, whilst the post focussing on EU Exit is for 2 years.
