The role

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work within a new team of Environmental Crime Officers within a Major Investigations Room setting. You will be working to investigate and combat serious and organised environmental crime, working with and alongside other Agency teams and partner organisations. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate through experience that he / she has a full understanding of delivering major complex criminal investigations within an MIR setting.

The team
 
The Environment Agency is combating serious and organised environmental crime. As an integral part of that process the Agency is establishing a centralised Major Investigations Room (MIR) based at Sapphire House Solihull. The room will operate along similar lines to an MIR within a policing environment using a system known as PowerCase which is similar to the Home Office Large Major Enquiry system. The team will have 5 staff members working within it, supported by other investigation and intelligence teams at both National and local area level.

Experience/skills required

Extensive experience of working within an intelligence led discipline involving crime detection and regulation The level of competence expected would normally be achieved following considerable proven experience in front line delivery.

An established knowledge of criminal investigation procedures and its application to complex major investigations. The level of expected experience would normally have been gained having performed a role within an MIR in a policing environment or similar.

Can show a high degree of organisational awareness and has experience of balancing the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.

Must be able to comply with appropriate procedures/policies in the delivery of service, treatment of others including storing information in accordance with current legislation. The successful candidates will also have a good working knowledge of Criminal Procedure and Investigation Act and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

Essential Additional Information

• Location – based as Environment Agency Offices, Sapphire House Solihull. Whilst this is the contractual base location there will be some flexibility in accordance with the demands of operational activity
• Travel – national travel will be required including occasional overnight stays.
• Standby/call – none although some out of hours work is required
• Driving – a full driving licence is required. The job will involve driving Environment Agency vehicles
