Environmental Engineer (Climate Change Emphasis)  - Decatur, IL.

The successful candidate reports to the environmental manager – U.S., and is responsible for providing environmental guidance, support and expertise to the company.  The candidate will concentrate on climate change issues by providing regulatory analysis of proposed or promulgated regulations, with particular focus on potential risks and opportunities to ADM’s business units from USEPA regulations and Congressional activities related to climate change (e.g., EPA Endangerment Finding, Tailoring Rule, PSD & GHG guidance and RFS2) and state activities related to climate change (e.g., California LCFS and Cap & Trade Program). The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining the company’s greenhouse gas inventory. Prior knowledge of and expertise in these rules and activities is required.

Other duties the candidate will be responsible for include:

 

  • participating in the development and support of environmental program enhancements,
  • providing information, tools, guidance and updates to plant or divisional environmental managers,
  • preparing applicability determinations for specific operations and regulations,
  • reviewing resources (internal and external) for information, interpretations, and trends to add rigor and clarity to written analysis, and
  • providing agency negotiation assistance and other functions that assist the plant or divisional environmental managers as needed.

The candidate will be capable of: 

  • demonstrating environmental technical expertise, sound judgment, and a strong understanding in regard to environmental issues and challenges facing manufacturing, R&D and support operations,
  • conducting or arranging for environmental due diligence on divestitures and/or acquisitions that effectively analyzes and communicates the environmental liability exposure, 
  • performing proactive analysis of, and proposing solutions for, environmental issues in support of the transaction process, and   
  • working in a manner to ensure their personal safety and that of fellow colleagues by following governmental and company health and safety standards, guidelines and policies.

The successful candidate has a BS/MS in Engineering (chemical, civil or environmental preferred), or a closely aligned field and eight or more years of related work experience.  The candidate has a foundation of environmental skills and knowledge with demonstrated expertise in CAA regulations.  Proficient literature research skills and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.  The candidate has strong teamwork and leadership skills, as well as an ability to think creatively.
