My client requires the services of suitably qualified and experienced environmental assessment and management practitioners to join their team in Stellenbosch.
This position involves the application of a range of environmental assessment and management skills, including environmental impact assessment, environmental management plans and strategic environmental assessment, as well as related skills such as environmental audits and due diligence, monitoring and evaluation, devising sustainability frameworks and sustainability reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Work together with colleagues to develop our environmental assessment and management capabilities, through developing networks, growing our business and building new competencies
- Coordinate and manage large-scale complex environmental studies, from the proposal and negotiation phases through to public consultation, information collation, report writing and communication of findings
- Travel regularly both in South Africa and other African countries.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A post-graduate qualification in the environmental sciences (preferably a Masters degree), or in a field related to sustainable development.
- A minimum of twelve months relevant work experience in environmental assessment and management
- Training and experience in proposal preparation, report writing, project management and communication skills
- Capability in conducting independent investigations as well as integrating information from across disciplines
- Registration as a Professional Natural Scientist, EAPSA, or similar, or potential eligibility for such registration
- Valid South African Code 08 driver’s licence
- A keen and critical grasp of national and international developments regarding sustainability issues, in particular those defined by human-environment relationships, for example, pertaining to transformation trends in energy systems (renewable energy, carbon trading) and industrial processes (CDM)
- Familiarity with, and experience of, international funding, aid and donor agency contracting processes and project management
- Knowledge of environmental legislation, institutional structures and environmental assessment and management practice in developing countries
- Experience in application of scientific analytical research methodology, as verified through, for example, publication of papers, conference proceedings or book chapters
- Experience in Francophone Africa and proficiency in French would be an advantage.
