West Angelas is a fly in, fly out operation located approximately 110km north west of Newman in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Comprised of high grade Marra Mamba ore, the resources defined within the West Angelas area total over 1 billion tonnes. Facilities in the 870 room camp include multipurpose tennis/basket ball courts, outdoor cricket pitch, swimming pool and fully equipped gym.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent this position will require you to provide technical advice and assistance to the West Angelas site, with regards to operational environmental issues to achieve compliance with relevant laws and Company Standards and ensure West Angelas maintains ISO14001 certification.. 
In your role as Environmental Advisor you will be responsible for the general management of site environmental issues relating to dust, water, waste management, hydrocarbons, sediment and drainage control, clearing and topsoil storage, rehabilitation, greenhouse initiatives, flora and fauna, sewage and licensing. You will also be responsible for site environmental planning, promotion of environmental awareness, conducting audits, managing environmental risk registers, environmental improvement plans and liaising with internal and external clients.
You will require a degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline with experience in a similar role. In addition, sound practical knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and best practice for a mining operation as well as practical familiarity with ISO14001 standards, is highly regarded.
The ability to work constructively with non-specialists to help them understand environmental compliance requirements through your excellent communication skills is also essential. You must place a high priority on providing effective and timely services to assist Rio Tinto Iron Ore in meeting its Environmental commitments and targets.
