Position description:
ECODIT LIBAN is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Environment Specialist to join the company’s Home Office team based in Beirut, Lebanon. The successful candidate will assist the firm on multiple functions and assume responsibilities commensurate with his/her capabilities and work experience.
Responsibilities 1. Provide support to new business development, such as tracking new Request for Proposals on the UNDP and other websites, proposal writing, identifying specialists and writing CVs, etc. 2. Participate in and/or lead the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment studies conducted by the firm pursuant to Lebanese EIA regulations and international standards. 3. Participate in the preparation of Strategic Environmental Assessments conducted by the firm, also pursuant to Lebanese SEA regulations. 4. Participate in and/or lead the preparation of Environmental Audits conducted by the firm, also pursuant to Lebanese regulations related to Environmental Compliance for Establishments. 5. Conduct site visits and lead project activities related to environmental pollution and sampling including the collection of samples (water, wastewater, etc.) and analysis of corresponding test results generated by reputed labs in Lebanon or abroad. 6. Participate in the formulation of an Action Plan for Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Compliance (EFL-GIZ). 7. Write project summaries for upload on the ECODIT website 8. Manipulate and retrieve environmental legislation and regulations using the SADER database (ECODIT owns a license)
Minimum Requirements • At least 2 years of practicable work experience with demonstrated knowledge of environmental principles and practices; • Strong oral and written communication skills in English; • Good oral and written communication skills in Arabic and French is a plus; • Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences (biology, public health, environment, etc.) and relevant Graduate degree (environment, policy studies, public administration, natural resources management, etc.). • Interest in local development; • Familiarity with environmental legislation and news in Lebanon; and • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to various audiences.
Additional desirable skills and abilities: • Able to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; • Able to work independently and deliver quality products and services; • Professional interest in greener lifestyles and environmental advocacy; • EIA experience; and • Able to manage multiple tasks on time-sensitive projects.
