Environment Monitoring Sampling and Collection Assistant

Salary: £18,374 | Location: Flexible |Closing Date: 24 April 2015

Job purpose

To collect EC Bathing Water samples at 42 EC Designated Bathing Beaches between May and September in accordance with the revised European Bathing Water Directive

 Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Carry out monitoring survey work and data collection in order to deliver the area monitoring programme, as part of the business plan and environmental outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a strong internal/external customer focus; build effective relationships and work well with partners to achieve environmental goals.
  • Promote awareness of health & safety best practice; ensure you use safe working practices to comply with our policies and standards.
  • Regularly update and maintain information on the relevant database(s) and public registers to ensure that it complies with current legislation and our own standards.
  • Support investigations, identify concerns and respond to the team/other functions, in line with our own policies, to support positive environmental outcomes.

 Job Specific Requirements

  • Must have full UK driving licence
  • Must be able to cope with a physically demanding job and be able to swim
  • Basic IT experience.
  • Promote awareness of health & safety best practice; ensure you use safe working practices to comply with our policies and standards.
  • Regularly update and maintain information on the relevant database(s) and public registers to ensure that it complies with current legislation and our own standards.
  • Develop and maintain a strong internal/external customer focus; build effective relationships and work well with partners to achieve environmental goals.

Due consideration has been given to the Welsh language requirements for the post and the existing skills within the department. Taking this into consideration the Welsh language skills required for the post are at Level 1.

This post is responsible for: Collection of Water Quality samples to satisfy the revised EC Bathing Water Directive and our statutory duties, as set out in the Corporate and Business Plan.

This is a seasonal temporary full time post from April to September, 37 hours to include some weekend and Bank holiday working
