Environment Lead Officer

This is an exciting time and we in the county environment team are looking for a leader who will help us deliver our business plan and ecological, landscape, archaeological, heritage and rights of way services. We are a dedicated environment team who is responsible for providing specialist advice and professional guidance relating to the management, protection, promotion and investigation of the rich historic and natural environment within our County. Our team are actively involved in shaping major development and infrastructure across Buckinghamshire, HS2 and East West Rail projects to name just two.

The environment team is responsible for providing responses to County and District planning applications ensuring that we make a positive difference in people lives and the places they live.

This role does not necessarily require a technical specialist but you will be able combine your management and environmental knowledge, skills and experience to help the environment team deliver expert advice, professional guidance and information relating to the management, protection and investigation of the historic and natural environment within the County of Buckinghamshire. Archaeological, Ecological, Landscaping and Biodiversity are all matters which fall within your teams role.

You will have to work with developers, elected members, stakeholders, fellow County Council officers, the District Councils, Government agencies and voluntary organisations. You will promote, develop and maintain effective partnerships with these groups and provide a customer focused service to deliver the County’s corporate priorities and objectives, maintaining records and providing specialist legal and statutory Environmental advice to facilitate appropriate development.

The post is a permanent position with a salary range: £35,464 to £39,365. Appointment policy is to the entry point of the range and all pay progression is dependent upon contribution, as assessed through the BCC performance management system Delivering Successful Performance.

Successful candidates will ideally have acquired practical experience within a management role and have a degree or equivalent in a historic, natural, ecological environment related discipline. A background in an environmental planning related discipline and experience of being an expert witness at Public Inquiries and hearings in relation to complex and or sensitive environmental cases would be a distinct advantage.

You must have demonstrable communication and report writing skills with proficient computer literacy and hold a full driving licence.
