Job Purpose/Overview

The purpose of this role is to help deliver NATS' Environmental programme and long term sustainable business strategy and goals. This includes being a net zero emissions company by 2035 and carbon negative by 2040, maintaining an ‘A’ rating for environmental stewardship under the CDP benchmark and playing our part in helping the aviation industry to decarbonise.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring environmental compliance across NATS’ vast est ate, through the maintenance and improvement of NATS ISO14001 certified management system. The post holder will be required to connect with stakeholders across the business to raise awareness of environmental priorities and targets to help improve performance and reduce the impact and risks of NATS’ activities on the environment.

Other duties include:

  1. Develop and lead estate sustainability improvement initiatives across the business and within Supply Chain and Procurement teams to embed improvement opportunities through the supplier base.
  2. Maintain the NATS Environmental Management System (EMS) compliance register and plan and conduct internal compliance audits of sites and assets.
  3. Manage the GHG emissions inventory for annual verification and internal reporting and governance, collate, audit and report on NATS emissions data (e.g. F-gases, billing).
  4. Plan and oversee the NATS annual sustainable transport survey, analyse results and report emissions. Identify trends in the transport survey and propose strategies to improve environmental performance.
  5. Maintain a forecast of NATS' estate emissions, improving the link with projects to ensure they support NATS net zero and carbon negative targets.
  6. Support the team in leading, driving, completing and improving NATS CDP grade.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Detailed experience of the management and audit of an ISO14001 certified environmental management system.
  • Extensive experience of environmental management with good knowledge of environmental impacts.
  • Deep knowledge of environmental legislation, frameworks and best practices such as Non-Financial Reporting, climate related disclosures, Sustainable Development Goals and the CDP environmental stewardship benchmark.
  • Experience of deploying environmental strategies and a track record of delivering projects to support environmental strategies.
  • An excellent communicator with first class written and verbal communication skills and an enquiring mind.
  • Preferably educated to degree level in an environmental or sustainability discipline.
