Suez is looking to recruit an Environment Assistant to join our Environment team in the North East, covering sites in and around the Newcastle area and surrounding regions.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Environment Assistant the Environment Assistant will be responsible for carrying out environmental monitoring in line with Permit requirements, identification and communication of non-compliance issues resulting from site visits and subsequent data processing. While following all Suez policies, procedures and risk assessments. The successful candidate will work closely with other team members of the Environment department/Operational & Closed site managers.
The role will involve monitoring of landfill sites and other Suez facilities of gas, leachate, groundwater, surface water and other parameters as required by the environmental permit for the sites. A key responsibility will be checking results and using the Monitor Pro database along with reporting of routine environmental monitoring results to the Environment Agency via weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as appropriate. There are also a host of administrative tasks including, but not limited to assisting in creation and implementation of monitoring management plans, raising purchase orders, updating records and filing of analysis reports from the laboratory.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate initiative and be able to work alone. Working as part of a team the successful candidate must have good communication skills and attention to detail.
Applicants must be able to work flexible working hours as required by the business, including some travel to other regions for monitoring and meetings as required and stopping away in hotels on occasion.
Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and be fully computer literate.
Applicants should ideally have an Environmental Science degree or similar and good report writing skills.
Experience of landfill sites is desirable but not essential as training will be given.
