On our four-year Environment and Science Graduate Training Scheme (ES-GTS), you will be welcomed into one of a diverse range of permanent environmental and science-based roles across the EA. When you join us on the Scheme you will start your environment and science career by:

  • Focusing on your professional development with our blended learning approach including training, mentoring, on-the-job experience, and development opportunities to work in various roles within the organisation.
  • Contributing to a range of exciting projects and initiatives.
  • Working towards chartership with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and/or other relevant professional institutions.

Your role with us in Environmental Permitting and Industry Regulation

Immerse yourself in a dynamic team dedicated to environmental protection and play your part towards protecting the water environment. As part of your role, you'll have the chance to take on a range of tasks and responsibilities:

  • Working at the heart of the Environment Agency’s national team to regulate the most polluting industries in England, under the national Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) regime.
  • Contributing to our environmental protection responsibilities through environmental permitting and licencing. Providing advice and guidance to our internal and external customers and supporting other functions in the Environment Agency.
  • Getting involved in an extensive range of regulatory work alongside technical experts and partner organisations to set appropriate conditions within permits to allow business and industry to thrive and evolve whilst protecting people and the environment.
  • Helping to reduce the potential for people and industry to cause serious pollution and environmental harm. The work contributes directly to addressing operational practices that affect and cause climate change.

You will be joining a team on the frontline of tackling the climate emergency.
