This is a brand new role – and a unique opportunity to make a huge and very visible impact on our future. In short, your challenge is to manage all aspects of the Council’s work to drive environmental, climate change and sustainability improvement. First and foremost, that means establishing a specialist Environment & Climate Change Unit: a centre of excellence that will lead our development. It also means providing a clear direction for both the Council and the Local Strategic Partnership - a roadmap that will deliver measurable results across all areas. We also need you to champion the environment and climate change agendas throughout the Council. This in itself will involve changing the way more than 20,000 people think and work, so they can all contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and meeting our ambitious commitments. While it’s important that you have an environmental background (within either the public or private sectors), the real key here is your ability to lead, influence and drive change. You’re able to quickly gain credibility with people at the most senior level. You can challenge their perceptions, winning hearts and minds to your vision.
